The
international conference on "After the Third Wave: Problems and
Challenges for the New Democracies," is a symposium gathering
international experts and scholars together to share their wisdom,
experience and expertise on new democracies.
Since
the overthrow of the Portuguese dictatorship in 1974, a third
wave of democratic movement has flourished around the world. What
are the overriding challenges and difficulties confronted by new
democracies? How do the various trajectories of new democracies
have an effect on their government performances? And what are
the significant contributions of new democracies to democratic
development?
This
conference is an examination of the past, present, and the future
of the third wave movement, and more importantly, an attempt to
explore possible solutions to
problems
and challenges of new democracies.
